Badass Honeymoon

  • by

As many of you know, Angel and I went on a 16 week honeymoon last year after we tied the knot. We celebrated our 1st anniversary this August. Crazy to think it’s been more than a year already.. people joke and say it’s not that hard to believe it’s been that long when you go on a 6 month honeymoon.

Shoutout to my boy Branded Moore.

We went to America for 8 weeks and then UK and Europe for 8 weeks. It was really amazing. I wanted to take the time today and write about the open mics/performances I did while we were travelling. I said we were on the honeymoon tour when I was performing. People liked that.

Enjoy!

*Not actual honeymoon photo*

People asked us how we managed to afford to go away for so long.. I tell them a shitload of debt.

The 1st performance actually happened on the Beverly Hills tour bus. We were cruising around looking at how the other half lived in Mr Burns style estates. We came up to Puff Daddys estate and my wife goes to the bus driver:

“Can we drop something in the letterbox? My husbands a rapper from Australia!”

The driver was like:

“Hell no.”

Angels like:

“Come on, we’ll be quick. It’s our honeymoon.”

The drivers like:

“OK. Just be quick. I didn’t see anything.”

We jumped off the bus and Angel filmed me putting a tape in the letterbox. I couldn’t speak for a beardcam. I thought security was going to come out with guns drawn.

No one came out, we don’t even know if it was legitimately Puffs house or some random joint the driver was pointing out haha. Anyway, we jump back on the bus and the driver goes:

“Are you really a rapper?”

I’m like:

Yeah bro, wanna hear some?”

I plugged my USB into the bus system, grabbed the mic and proceeded to bang out some Primitive classics. Everyone was vibing and, even the Indian tourists at the back of the bus. It was dope.

Honeymoon hip hop

We did an open mic on Sunset Boulevard in LA in this hidey hole joint and another in a local music bar in San Fran to round off the West Coast leg of the tour lol.

Then Texas.

We fucking loved Texas. What a wild place. We hired a car and drove across Texas. Driving a car on the opposite side of the road is not for the faint-hearted. There were some sections near the major cities that had 6 lanes of traffic going each way. Not only that, you can enter and exit from both sides of the freeway.

The freeways also Stacked.

I found an open mic joint online when we were in Houston. It was a Wednesday night and we rock up to this Black Metal bar. Angel wearing Timberlands and urban gear and me in hightops and Primitive street wear.

Everyone was wearing black with chains haha.

The venue was dope. Huge stage setup for a 5 piece band.. smoke machines and lights. Huge venue.

It was dead.

There was like 20 people in this massive bar, us included.

Regardless, I jumped up when it was time. The stage had been warmed up by a thrash metal house band and a solo dude playing Metallica covers.

My name was called up and I fuckin rocked that shit man.

After that we did some hardcore travelling. Next open mic was on another continent in London. Fucking loved London.

The people loved my set. What can I say? I loved it too.

It was a quiet night and by the end, Angel and I were dancing trying to remember the steps of our 1st dance at the wedding. It was such an epic trip. Full of beautiful people, experiences and places.

Plus I got to put a tape in P Diddys letterbox.

I messaged Puff on Insta and he didn’t reply. I literally said I’m the guy that letterbox dropped you my tape.

It’s so interesting, I was talking to a good friend today, who’s an artist and musician. She was saying that she’s come to accept that she will never blow up – well probably never – and that acceptance has freed her. She said she was always making the art for her, but now even more so. There’s no pressure to make it a certain way to appeal to anyone but herself.

I thought that was really cool. It reminded me of why I make the music I make, and what really matters. Us creatives just need to create. It’s a yearning.

A need.

Oh yeah, I nearly forgot. I released a filmclip for Sydney Highway and dropped the single Old Timey while we were away. Angel reminded me to include that in the blog.

We out here fam. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for rocking with ya boi prim !
