BIgRedCap crushing the sick fresh raps!

What up fam and welcome to another addition of Prim’s Plugs. This time I caught up with the one and only BIGREDCAP. I fucking love this guy man. One word, 3 syllables, BigRedCap embodies his love of music and delivers it through catchy hooks, punchlines and a larger-than-life persona that oozes authenticity and fun.

He recently made my lyric video for my track Slow, which is so dope. I 1st met BRC at a paintball charity event pre-Covid and we vibed. It wasn’t until I saw him perform live for the 1st time that I knew he was a real one. He feeds off the energy of the crowd and it’s impossible not to give that energy right back.

I could bang on about him all day. One of the best guys in the scene. Without further ado.

Big ups BigRedCap!

Thanks for your time bro.
How long have you been making music/creating?

I started when I was 15/16 ish? So A very long time.

Dope. What’s your ideal creative environment?

Honestly I love to lock myself in the studio and work by myself most of the time.
The process of recording, mixing etc.. is all very solitary for me.
Though if I am working on a song together with someone and we are going back and forth with ideas etc..
I do love to be in the room together.

What inspires you?

Everything. Music is such a massive outlet for creativity that it cannot be understated how therapeutic it is.
I took a year off not too long ago, when life got a bit hectic with 2 kids, mortgage etc.. and I started to go a bit mad.
When I finally got back in the studio and got my groove back – I was like a new man.
I also think people connecting to the music is a big part of it. When people come up to you or message you about something
you wrote in a song – it really means so much. So being honest in songs can be hard but rewarding in the long run.

"....Music was definitely flowing through my house always..."

Did you grow up with music in your home?

Most def. While my dad was a terrible man. He was an incredible guitarist. He played lots of local shows, as did my mum on the bass.
Music was definitely flowing through my house always. My sister was also an amazing singer. My mum was always super supportive of me chasing my dreams..
Even if it meant for a few years there I was a cliché stoner with a dream haha

Haha yeah man. Who are you listening to these days?

I think after a certain point in life, music doesn’t hit the same way it did when you’re growing up. So a lot of what I listen to is
the same people I have done for years haha Wiley, Limp Bizkit, Kano. Dizzee dropped a new album recently which I have been listening to.
In terms of Aus, Complete’s new album is crazy dope.

What does music give you?

I think connections is a big thing. I have friends for life that I have met simply because we both like to make music.. and were in the same
place at the same time. I could go interstate and stay at someone’s house.. and we have barley even met in real life but it’s all love.

It is also just a space to be creative, get the juices flowing. Whether I’m editing a video, writing bars, doing shows, creating cover art..
There are so many ways to be creative.

Its also an outlet for all the happiness and pain in my life. I like to be as real as possible.. whether I’m spilling my guts or being over the top.
Putting yourself on a song is like a time capsule.

Tell me about what you feel when you’re doing a set onstage?

Best feeling in the world. I feel it’s where I belong.
Bigredcap

"...don't just talk about something - just DO IT..." - Bigredcap

What do you write about?

Generally my life. I love story telling as well as just unleashing my emotions about something.
Often, if I feel very strongly about something and I lay it all out on a song. It says everything I need to say on a subject and I can move on.
An emotional baggage dump I guess haha.
But I also love to have fun.  Again, being creative or cinematic with an idea is also great for the soul.

What’s next for you?

About to drop my next album, which took wayyy to long to put together. I also have an album with Split1 dropping soon. As well as a small EP with
Losty & Jon Reichardt that’s different from anything I have done before. A few shows here and there. Shoot some videos. You know.. a bunch of fun shit haha.

Funniest moments in music?

I honestly don’t know aye haha
I’ve seen some shit that I cannot even repeat.
Being on the road with Losty had it’s fair share of moments.
I remember one time we were performing our song DRAMA together and for some reason when I opened my mouth – I came out with his verse instead of mine. The look on losty’s face was priceless.

Tips for the up and coming Emcee?

Just be authentic. Don’t worry about views and streams. Do it because you love it. And don’t just talk about something – just DO IT

Yoo big ups to BigRedCap for taking the time to sit down with me and have a mad chat. You can catch BRC here https://hyperfollow.com/Bigredcap and I’ve just found out he is on the bill for Complete’s upcoming gig on August 24th! If you’ve never seen BRC live, do yourself a favour and cop a ticket. Complete is dope too haha.

As always, thanks for rocking with Ya boy Prim!
